On April 16th, 878, the Slavic name of Belgrade was first mentioned in historical documents. On April 19th, 1867, the Turkish authorities symbolically handed over the keys to Belgrade, and then the city officially became the territory of Serbia. These are the dates on which the "Belgrade Days" event is organized every year. These are days that must be remembered and marked forever.

Laying flowers at the Kalemegdan Memorial

Date: April 16th from 09:45

Prince Mihailo received the keys from the Turkish authorities led by Ali Riza Pasha on April 19th, 1867 at Kalemegdan. The ceremony took place at the site where the Memorial dedicated to this historical event is now located. It is here that flowers will be laid to honor the hundreds of thousands of people who gave their lives for the freedom of Belgrade. The laying of flowers will be accompanied by a drama program featuring actors dressed in authentic costumes.

On the eve of the traditional laying of flowers, a ceremonial parade will be organized along Knez Mihailova Street. The parade will begin at the Delijska cesma, and it will include the Music Orchestra of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, cadets of the Military Academy, the Cavalry Brigade of the Belgrade Police Department and citizens.

Ceremonial presentation of the City of Belgrade Awards

Date: April 17th at 11:00

The Belgrade City Assembly, Ceremonial Hall is the exact venue for the presentation of the City of Belgrade Award - Despot Stefan Lazarevic. The City of Belgrade Awards for Youth Creativity and the Svetislav Stojanovic Award for 2024 will be presented.

The City of Belgrade Awards are presented to deserving individuals who, with their work and deeds in the previous year, have contributed to the improvement of cultural, scientific, economic and sports life in the capital.

The musical part of the program is reserved for the Children's Choir "Kolibri", which will be led by conductor Sanja Lazovic, and together they will perform the "Belgrade Anthem". The program will be hosted by Irena Jovanovic.
