The largest gastronomic caravan in the Balkans "Izadji mi na teglu" has brought its eleventh season to an end, and in its last edition it visited 15 cities across Serbia!
The grand finale will be held on Saturday, 12th October, starting at 11:00 near "Kamengrad" (Stone Town) on Ada Ciganlija and will bring together all the winners of the qualifying competitions at the big "wooden spoons battle", which will end with the crowning of the new queen or king of ajvar of the XI season of the caravan.
"Izadji mi na teglu" is the only national competition in the preparation of ajvar under the sky, and the organizers provide the participants with a fully equipped competition stand, a Smederevac stove, peppers, wood, jars, oil, sugar and salt. Competing teams should bring only their equipment for preparing ajvar, but also a good mood, because competitors and visitors in each city can expect an all-day entertainment program, which includes prize games provided by long-time friends of the caravan. Also, in each city, the best three competing teams receive valuable prizes.
During eleven seasons, the caravan visited over 200 cities, the contestants made over 45,000 jars of ajvar from about 100 tons of pepper, and the event was visited by nearly 1,000,000 people. In the past eleven editions of the national competition, teams from Leskovac, Kovacica, Bela Palanka, Kanjiza, Brus, Kursumlija, Dimitrovgrad, Vladicin Han and Kikinda won the championship title, which proves that there are masters of "Serbian caviar" all over our country.
The fact that a successful placement in the competition encouraged more than 40 households to start their own ajvar production gives the event great value. And in order to achieve these results, the organizers of the caravan travel 20,000 kilometers in one season, so that in the past ten years they have covered a mileage that is greater than the three Earth's circumferences.
This year's caravan season was realized under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Youth, the local governments of the participating cities, as well as numerous sponsors whose support makes the project more successful year after year.
